“PROPERLY TAILORED CLOTHING, WORN WITH CONFIDENCE, OPENS ALL DOORS.”
How long have you been with TRC ?
Since its inception…31 years (1986)
What do you like most about your job ?
It’s all about the people for me. I meet so many interesting ones through our shops, and it’s fun unlocking their wants & needs as it relates to their wardrobes.
What past experiences have helped in your present position ?
During high school I began my retail career under the tutelage of Abraham Stadiem, the owner of a small mens shop in Kinston. Abe really taught me how to sell and that mastering the art of retail required listening to my customers. When I went off to college I worked for Bob Rosenbacher, owner of The Hub in Chapel Hill, who became my next teacher. He taught me the necessity of a tidy shop and how to refold clothing to look like it had never been unpacked. In the late 1970s I moved to Charlotte to work for Jodhpurs, owned by King Bostrom, who introduced me to the world of luxury clothing and that there’s always a market for the very finest….if you present it in the proper manner.
Do you have any advice for the next generation on personal style ?
Study style from the early 1920s through the 1990s to gain a sense of its flow through the generations. Once you know a bit about style and learn what you like, you’ll make an educated decision about your own style and gain the confidence to dress yourself.
In one word how would you define TRC
Taylor Richards & Conger — STYLE
Which is your favorite season and why ?
I love winter because it (typically) requires the layering of clothes, giving you multiple options to create just the look you want.
Do you have a favorite pastime ?
History is a passion of mine, and I love learning about the early Greek, Roman and Renaissance eras.
What is the best advice you would give a friend ?
Enjoy each day to its fullest, because life offers no guarantees.
